The Power of 10 -SCHOOLS REQUIRED

Tuesday 19th Sept - Next Spanish Evening

All welcome!

cassettes and CDs

Anne Taylor shares why it is important to harness the power of 10 when it comes to language learning...

What has the power of ten to do with learning a language? Can you learn ten words in a day, a week, a month? What can you learn in ten minutes, ten hours, ten weeks, and ten months?

I am looking for ten schools in the Midlands area who will take the Power of Ten challenge. I am challenging schools to encourage all members of staff [and not just teachers] to spend just ten hours learning a language.

Send me the names of any school who would be interested in taking part please And let’s get them some good publicity.

Can you apply the power of ten to any other aspects of your life?

What a wonderful world....how acts of kindness can make the difference

Do you recall the plight of Ford Hall Farm that LFA publicised,  and their efforts to raise £800,000  to save the land for the community

If you didn’t see it in any newspaper or on the TV the happy news is that they achieved that aim. This is a great achievement  - Do you know the word for kindness in the language you are studying? www.actsofkindness.org

The next Language Evening  is  Sept 19thth. Places are limited and going fast so put your name down quickly. Drop me an e-mail and send the cheque through the post. Check details on www.languagesforall.co.uk

We want to rename these fun evenings  They are great fun as those who have attended will testify. We need a name that reflects this and as there will be language evenings for other languages it must not be language specific

We will send two packs of Prompt Cards  - one for you, one for a friend to the person who comes up with the best new name! You have only until July 2nd. So get those thinking caps on now.

Come along and try out your Spanish in a small, friendly, supportive group where everyone is learning together

I have taken the following from this site and you may wish to go and look at it for more ways to increase your brain power.

Cycles of Consciousness

Your consciousness waxes and wanes throughout the day. For most it seems to go through 90 minute cycles, with 30 minutes of lower consciousness. Watch yourself to recognize this cycle. If you learn to recognize and track your mental state, you can concentrate on important mental tasks when your mind is most "awake". For creative insight into a problem, do the opposite. Work on it when you are in a drowsy state, when your conscious mind has slowed down.

Sleep On It

Previewing key information and then sleeping on it increases retention 20 to 30 percent. You can leave that information next to the bed for easy access, if it is something that won't keep you awake. If you are kept awake by your thoughts, writing everything down sometimes gets it "out of your mind," allowing you to sleep (so keep a pen and paper nearby).

Visiting the Black Country Museum with a student of English from Switzerland she asked what does the word “posh” mean?

I was, of course able to tell her -  but who can tell me how the word came about?
